* there are no drum triggers and the cymbal you're hearing is the top of a throw-away Pearl hi-hat, from the 70s, which came with the kit I bought off of kijiji-- except the cymbal you hear in the train crossing bell sounding outro, that's from a previous drum take- it's a rental.
* the double clap at around 1:30 is kind of a reference to how I clap my hands at my cat when he's being a butt while I'm recording at home. So it's the double clap of "stop your nonsense"
* the "1,2,3 strikes, you're out..." I added because Pat (my partner) said the organ bit at the beginning, before Brandon Unis found a cool effect that launched it into space, reminded him of a baseball game organ and I was like- cool- I'm going to play off that impression... add a "game over" element.
* I edited the song to end at 4:04 because 404 is an error code.
* "paranoid android" is a reference to Marvin, the manically depressed robot, not the Radiohead song
* small bits of the bass line I tried to allude to Iron Man by Black Sabbath because those lyrics are about being pretty shut down as well.
* the cover is just some broken mannequin hands that were left laying on the basement floor. The old paint dots on the floor almost looked like they were intentionally framing them so I took a pic. My main deal is creating with my hands ( I'm mainly a sculptor and painter) so, I thought it could work in the sense of that's what's left of me.
(See? If I were a better housekeeper I wouldn't have quick, easy song covers.)
lyrics
Lyrics:
I know that you've been messin' around-
that you've been all over town
and it's kinda got me down.
I don't think you want to play this game (no,no)
things can never be the same
I'll just leave you in your, leave you in your, leave you in your- shame, shame
So I've been looking for someone too
-one who'll treat me better than (better than) you.
but I can't shake the things you'd do...
the parts you'd break with every move
All I can offer is what's left of me
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
a broken down, sullen frown-ed, paranoid android
Left of me
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
a terrified, vilified, used up void void
Left of me
Left of me
Pack up all your shirts and I'll pack up all my dreams
don't pretend that you feel grief-
you should only feel relieved.
You act like you want me to share the blame...no, no
you were never going to change
You'll just always be, you'll always be, you'll always be the same same.
So I've been looking for someone too.
one who'll treat me better than (better than) you.
but I can't shake the things you'd do
the parts you'd break with every move
....all I have to offer is what's left of me
(yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah)
a broken down, sullen frown-ed, paranoid (android)
...left of me.
(yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah)
a terrified, vilified, used up (void! void!)
Left of me
Left of me
Collect the pieces.
Rest a season
You're not dying -
just a phoenix rising
yeah- I can build out of what is left of me
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
You wanderin' eyed, ever-lying, Jekyll hided, sleezoid.
Left of me
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'm satisfied, justified I'm over-fuckin' joyed, joyed.
Left of me
Left of me
Left of me
Left of me
